Par hasard, une pirogue a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte ici en 1999 alors que son occupant s&rsquo;enfon\u00e7ait litt\u00e9ralement dans le sol. Pour des raisons de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, la structure a \u00e9t\u00e9 retir\u00e9e. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 soigneusement examin\u00e9 et mesur\u00e9. Une grande partie a \u00e9t\u00e9 reconstruite au Museum aan de IJzer \u00e0 Diksmuide.<\/p>\n<h2>Un abri allemand<\/h2>\n<p>Plusieurs \u00e9l\u00e9ments indiquent que la pirogue est de fabrication allemande. Par exemple, le toit n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;\u00e0 deux m\u00e8tres du sol en moyenne. Pr\u00e8s du front, les abris sont plus profonds pour r\u00e9sister aux lourds bombardements. Avant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toerismezonnebeke.be\/fr\/zien-en-doen\/histoire-bataille-de-passchendaele\/\">la troisi\u00e8me bataille d&rsquo;Ypres<\/a>, c&rsquo;est une zone relativement calme.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la prise de la structure par les N\u00e9o-Z\u00e9landais le 4 octobre, elle continue \u00e0 \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e par les troupes britanniques. Il y a un logement pour 66 hommes et quatre officiers.
