It is a place that reminds us of the horrific events of the First World War. Each of the 519 standing trees in the wood commemorates a known fallen soldier who found his final resting place in one of Polygon Wood&#8217;s two cemeteries. All soldiers can be found via <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.passchendaele.be\/nl\/\">this link<\/a> using the keyword &#8216;Peace Forest&#8217;..<\/p>\n<h2>The rose<\/h2>\n<p>The Peace Monument carries within it the message that peace triumphs over war&#8230; this is symbolised by the rose that will soon overgrow\/soften the barbed wire &#8211; made of 1918 metres of strip steel.<\/p>\n<h2>Memorial trees<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>five memorial trees<\/strong> around this monument refer to the countries involved: Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
