The Gustave Bourgois Mountain Bike Route consists of three routes, which together make up 40 km. The route is linked to the MTB Ypres. The mountain bike route starts at the sports hall in Beselare. The route was named after Gustave Bourgois, a man with a great fondness for the sports scene in Zonnebeke. Gustave was fully committed to the sports associations in the village. He was the driving force and jack-of-all-trades in cycling and football circles. He stood at the helm of the political regime for years and founded the sports federation, reaping laurels as chairperson of the super-sports council, the youth sport community and sport club community committees of West Flanders. He was present at the start of the cycling club “Eendracht Maakt Macht” for which he received an honorary royal title. Gustave was laureate of the trophy for sports merit. Gustave died in 1999, far too early. The mountain bike route takes you for a closer look at our five national municipalities with the aim of showing you all the facets of our varied countryside. We start at the sports hall in Beselare, climb towards the church and then go left towards Geluveld – Kruiseke.
